The Social Media Marketing Blog: Why I'm Blue

  • JasonFalls · 1 year ago
Outstanding, sir! Congratulations and Godspeed to you. What a fantastic opportunity. Proud of you, buddy. And your site visit to the F-150 plant will not require a hotel. It's a mile from my house. (And I expect a free truck at some point.)
  • C.C. Chapman · 1 year ago
Congrats my friend. They couldn't have hired a better person and I'm very psyched for you.
  • Scott Monty · 1 year ago
Very cool. Of course, I don't know who's gonna drive when we also visit my barrel at Marker's Mark...

    Thanks for your kind words.
  • J.J. Toothman · 1 year ago
Awesome. That's killer news. what an amazing opportunity.
  • Jim Storer · 1 year ago
Congrats Scott! We'll miss you around town (SMB, Mazinga BBQ, etc.), but at least we'll have a place to stay when we vacation in Dearborn!

    Jim | @jstorerj
  • Cathleen Rittereiser · 1 year ago
Does this mean you can't help my friend with ooVoo? Can you get me one of the new Mustangs? Ha ha.
Congratulations! This is awesome news for you and for social media as a discipline.
  • scottmonty · 1 year ago
After that video, I think you need one, BAD! Thanks, Cathleen. I hope I'll continue to innovate, inspire and improve.
  • Connie Reece · 1 year ago
Congratulations, Scott. Ford could not have made a better choice!
  • Steve Coulson · 1 year ago
Many congrats, buddy. Well deserved opportunity, and let's hope you achieve all the things I know you can in Motor Town.

(My favorite car my family ever had was a Ford Capri Mk II in metallic aquamarine. That thing was just beautiful)
  • scottmonty · 1 year ago
Thanks, man. Great story about the Capri - may have to use that one!
  • adelemcalear · 1 year ago
Scott, Congratulations on your new position at Ford! I'm sure that you will do an outstanding job shepherding that giant's social media efforts and setting the gold standard to which other large corporations aspire to. But, uh, no pressure.

This seems especially appropriate, given your new employer: May the road rise up to meet you and the wind be ever at your back.
  • Scott Monty · 1 year ago
Thanks, Adele. But if the wind is at my back, it means my car has stalled... ;-)
  • Matt Searles · 1 year ago
    Congratulations Scott..

I must say I've never been too big a fan of the color blue, but I must say you're causing me to reconsider.
  • servantofchaos · 1 year ago
Hey congrats, Scott. Does this mean I have to be nice about the Ford social media efforts now? ;) I am sure you will make a big impact!
  • scottmonty · 1 year ago
Looks like someone's angling for a new car. ;-) No, just be honest - that's what'll keep us on track. And thank you for your kind words, Gavin.
  • Mario Vellandi · 1 year ago
Congrats Scott! I hope you enjoy your new surroundings, friends, and acquaintances. May a strong gust be underneath your feet as you glide into Ford social media (humble) stardom.
  • sass · 1 year ago
Scott, congrats on your new ride, and glad you will still be wheeling around the Social Media highways! (We could not aFORD to lose you!) Change is almost always good, and I wish you and your family all success in this next venture (and adventure)!
  • scottmonty · 1 year ago
Hey, Jeff. Thanks for those kind words and the bad pun. I *knew* I could count on you!
  • Rachael Hampton · 1 year ago
Congras of the new job, but I feel sorry for you that your moving to michgan.
Last I love the podcast interview that you did over at engaging brands.
  • neville · 1 year ago
Congratulations, Scott. What a great opportunity! I'm sure we'll get to meet one of these days. Meanwhile, wishing you success.
  • Joseph · 1 year ago
Don't be blue. Think of all the kissing a$$ that's going to occur now! By the way, did I mention how much I admire your incredible impersonations. Or how your eyes twinkle when the sunlight hits them at that exact special moment?

Seriously though, we'll miss you and you'll always be my Consigliere.

The fact that you're leaving to head up Ford's social media efforts is a tribute and testament to - first and foremost - you and your achievements, together with the work you did at crayon and without question, the rise and growing importance of conversational marketing.

PS If you're lucky, you might still catch our President-elect celebrating his Al Gore endorsement :)
  • scottmonty · 1 year ago
Why so slow on the uptake, Interruptor?

It's been a privilege to have been part of the crayon team. I'm honored when you call me Consigliere, because I know the role has really meant something to you over this past year.

My own personal rise could not have occurred without crayon, and I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to work with some of the most creative and talented minds in the biz. Here's hoping I can continue to bring that to Ford.

And as to politics, let's just say my color scheme is a bit off. :)
  • Bryan Person · 1 year ago
    Scott:

This is an outstanding opportunity, and there's obviously nobody better than you to run with it. Congratulations to you, Scott, and congratulations to Ford on the brilliant hire! I hope they're reading these comments, too.

Let's make sure we get in one last Tweetup before you leave town!
  • scottmonty · 1 year ago
Bryan - thank you so much for that. Coming from one who has been at this for a while, that means a lot. And I'm glad that our tweetup days go waaaayyy back!
  • Steve Woodruff · 1 year ago
Wow. Congrats on a HUGE move, and a change for major-league influence!
  • Mark Goren · 1 year ago
Great news, Scott! I wish you all the best in your new post. It's a hire that validates everything you've done and everything we're all trying to do. Good luck and have fun!
  • maggiefox · 1 year ago
Hey Scott - so glad we're going to be working together, and so glad you agreed to come on board! Who knew that when we started talking in December this is where we'd end up?

You're joining an amazing team of people (as I'm sure you know); looking forward to pushing the envelope ever further with you at the helm!
  • Kyle Flaherty · 1 year ago
We will certainly miss you in Boston, but so very happy for you. Outstanding!

    /kff
  • Eden Spodek · 1 year ago
Congratulations Scott! What an exciting opportunity. Although it was great working with you on the PodCamp Toronto MyooVooDay program, I know you'll have the chance to do lots of amazing things at Ford. You'll love the team at Social Media Group too. Maybe we'll even get to see you at a Toronto meet-up one day soon - it's only a hop, skip and jump from your new home.
  • nick huhn · 1 year ago
Well played, Scott! Ford is lucky to have you and I wish you the best for continued success! I look forward to learning from you as you share your experiences there.
  • Jose Castillo · 1 year ago
Way to go Scott, I expect to see an awesome new web series shortly based on the Will It Blend idea. Dropping things into the bed of a Ford truck and finding out if it will drive away. Will It Drive?!

    Congrats and Buena Suerte!
  • chelpixie · 1 year ago
Congratulations, Scott. We'll miss you very much in Boston, but Ford has gained the best person to help them move forward in social media and marketing.
  • doughaslam · 1 year ago
Congrats, Scott! We'll miss you in Boston.

    Now, a few rules:
    1) You root for the Pistons, you're dead to me
    2) You root for the Tigers, you're a loser
    3) You root for the Red Wings, you're front-running scum
    4) You root for the Lions... lol, just kidding there

Other than that, stock up on Detroit Shock gear and have a blast!
  • scottmonty · 1 year ago
The Lions? The LIONS?? Oh, right. Football. I forgot Detroit had a football team. Believe me, my heart will always be in Boston.

I'm gonna miss you guys too. Boston is a unique city when it comes to social media. It seems that all of the stereotypes of New England insularity are totally destroyed as a result.
  • Todd Defren · 1 year ago
DUDE! WTF?! Wow. Congrats!!! I am SO happy for you, Scott.
  • Strafaci Box · 1 year ago
Congratulations on Ford! What a fantastic social media story. Hey, be sure to keep those bow time Monday's, you'll be a rebel over at Ford with that.
  • John Johansen · 1 year ago
Congratulations. That's certainly going to be an adventure.

Seems like moving out of Boston is the thing to do this summer. I hope Michigan treats you well.
  • Tom Biro · 1 year ago
Congrats, Scott. That's very awesome, and i'll be happy to speak on behalf of our crew in wishing you the best of luck!
  • Paull Young · 1 year ago
Nice mate! In my previous life chasing Racing Cars around Australia my sports agency worked closely with the Australian Ford camp (our big motoring battle is Ford vs Holden) - as a result I still have a lot of love for that brand.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
  • scottmonty · 1 year ago
Thank you, sir! Great to know about the Oz connection. I can't wait to see what I come up with too. :)
  • warrenss · 1 year ago
Congratulations to you and your family! Sounds like a great opportunity. There is life outside the Hub of the Universe as long as you don't root for the Tigers. Stay (true) blue and always wear your Red Sox.
  • fairminder · 1 year ago
Scott Congratulations! Seems a good fit for you. You nailed my love of the color blue, so now the word is out. Wondering if you will want to keep the same job title? It' is certainly unique in my travels and could set trends in the F500 as well as an F-150. Cheers.
    Jim | @fairminder
  • scottmonty · 1 year ago
I think 'Consigliere' is uniquely qualified for crayon. I'm expecting something a little more traditional at Ford - for now. We'll see what the future holds.
  • joec0914 · 1 year ago
Scotty, one more diner road trip before you depart? Or, heh, we could visit Ford's Lobsters next door to me in Noank, CT. :)
  • scottmonty · 1 year ago
You got it, Joe! I think I may need to bring my sticks down.
  • Glen Allsopp · 1 year ago
Congratulations mate, If you need anything feel free to get in touch

    Glen
  • RyanMoede · 1 year ago
Scott - Congratulations on the big move! Excited to see the cool ideas you bring to Ford.
  • annieh · 1 year ago
Congrats! Interested to see what you do with SM for Ford;)
  • podcastmama · 1 year ago
Congratulations! I am excited for you, and for Ford to be getting into social media. Can't wait to hear the details of what you'll be doing.
  • Ann Handley · 1 year ago
Sincere congrats! Couldn't have happened to a nicer consigliere! (Did I spell that correctly...?)
  • Britrock · 1 year ago
Congratulations Scott Monty of ScottMonty.com. Lucky boy working with those hot bodies everyday....unless the Ford you are referring to has nothing to do with the modeling agency... the game is indeed afoot. On behalf of everyone at ooVoo, thank you for your sterling efforts and dedication, particularly with "My ooVoo Day" and your everyday strategic guidance that has helped us build our company's awareness.

On a personal level I'll miss our daily chats disguised loosely as work and as Joe noted - your impersonations - you NEED to record your Peter Griffin for us as a parting gift. We'll get you a turnip of your very own as a parting gift.
  • scottmonty · 1 year ago
    Philip,

I can't begin to thank you enough for your support and professional attitude, not to mention your dry wit and love of the Britcoms. It's been a pleasure working with you and I can honestly say - and this is no kiss-up (because I'm not like that) - that ooVoo has been the best client I've ever worked with. The success of My ooVoo Day and the good that we did for the Frozen Pea Fund were just icing on the cake.

I'll see what I can go about Peter Griffin & family. You might have to buy me a few drinks first. ;-)
  • Liz Strauss · 1 year ago
    Cngratulations. Wow!
New beginnings are so exciting. This one holds so much promise.
Can't wait to hear about all of your successes to come.
  • Christopher S. Penn · 1 year ago
    Congratulations, sir.

Tell the boys in Motor City to install a stealth mode in their hybrids like the Japanese do. I'm not kidding.
  • scottmonty · 1 year ago
Thanks. I'll note that. Although, from what I can tell, the stealth mode in Japanese cars is only available in the U.S. by hacking.
  • Doug Reynolds · 1 year ago
Congratulations. You've certainly arrived. Best of luck out there.
  • janequigley · 1 year ago
Ford is a LUCKY company!! I'm excited for you and your family - and look forward to seeing you "on the road". Congratulations!
  • LufkinWriter · 1 year ago
Congrats! What new ideas will you bring to Ford? I am interested in watching how their social media efforts develop with you at the helm. And Dearborn is not so bad...
  • Gary Cohen · 1 year ago
Congrats. I am very excited for you Sherlock! Scott, I wish you all the best in your new adventure. Well deserved.
  • Christopher Barger · 1 year ago
Hey, Scott -- congratulations, and welcome to Detroit! The Wings, Pistons, and Tigers will be fun to cheer for... and you can drink lots of beer at Lions games! ;-)

Seriously, I think you coming over is a great move for our industry, and I do believe what "they" say about rising tides and boats. I'll welcome the contributions you can make, and I hope we'll keep pushing each other to excel.

Seriously, congratulations. This is great news.
  • scottmonty · 1 year ago
Lions? Why would I drink beer at the zoo? ;-)

Thank you, Chris. I'm looking forward to collaborating with you and creating some great social media stories from Motor City.
  • keaneiscool · 1 year ago
Congratulations, Scott! I'm sure you'll do amazing things there as well.
  • Richardatdell · 1 year ago
Congratulations Scott...and really thrilled to have you join the corporate side of the equation and keep it moving forward
  • scottmonty · 1 year ago
You guys at Dell are an inspiration to the corporate social media types. Don't be surprised if I call on you for advice from time to time.
  • Cam Beck · 1 year ago
    Save...them.
  • Dave Delaney · 1 year ago
This is really great news for you. Be sure to pop by Toronto, it's not "too" far. Although if you travel there enough you'll learn to hate the 401 like all Southern Ontario peeps. Seriously though, congrats on the move. I'm sure Crayon will miss you.

On the color/colour of blue... I just attended the Voices That Matter Conference in Nashville. I was very luck to meet and hang out with Molly E. Holzschlag of Molly.com and on Twitter @mollydotcom. Molly presented on designing with colors. She is seriously a color ninja should you ever need one.

    Congrats again buddy.
I'll be thinking of you each time I jump into my 98 Tauras. :-)
  • scottmonty · 1 year ago
Thanks, Dave. I really haven't spent much time in Canada, so I may need some pointers. And we'll have to see what we can do about that aging Taurus.
  • Dave Delaney · 1 year ago
You're definitely need to be at PodCamp Toronto and Podcasters Across
Borders next year - I intend to me. Yes, if you need me to test some new
cars please do let me know. I also look good in blue, but I'm not picky. :-)
    LOL!

    Cheers Scott.
    Dave

Scott, congratulations and best of luck! What an exciting opportunity. I will enjoy watching you transform Ford.
  • robynmc · 1 year ago
Scott, my impression is that you'll paint Ford more than blue! With your talent you're just beginning a new adventure. You do not sound like a conservative person, but a creator!

    Thanks for the link

  • Leah McChesney · 1 year ago
Wow Scott, well welcome to Michigan and Ford, my blood runs navy blue. LOL Well you couldn't pick a better time to buy a house in Michigan. If advice is wanted on areas you are looking to relocate to feel free to ask.
  • John Cass · 1 year ago
Great news Scott, congratulations. I first learned about you when I was working at Backbone Media, and your colleagues at your old agency described you as the chap who was crazy about social media and Sherlock Holmes, sounded like a great combination to me.

I've always thought you were a class act, and congratulate Ford for picking someone who is going to really help take them to the next level with social media.

Very sorry about losing you to Dearborn, but know you will always have plenty of friends here in Boston, should you visit.
  • Lori Laurent Smith · 1 year ago
Congrats Scott. Welcome to the club. Get in touch with Leah or me when you settle in and we'll do lunch. And you should consider Ann Arbor for your move -- much more civilized than Plymouth or Canton :)
  • scottmonty · 1 year ago
Thanks, Lori - looking forward to it. And as far as geography, you're biased!
  • scottmonty · 1 year ago
Wow - thank you, John. That means a lot. Particularly because you didn't stop at "the chap who was crazy." ;-)

My hope is to continue to attend events and to connect with my colleagues in the industry. I hope that will include you.
  • Shannon Paul · 1 year ago
I'm sure a lot of people will be sad to see you leave, but we really need people like you in Detroit who can bring a fresh perspective, passion and enthusiasm to the business community! I think this is fantastic news and I hope that our paths will cross once you arrive!

    Welcome. :-)
  • manobyte · 1 year ago
    Scott,

Welcome to Michigan!!! We need more folks like yourself here. I am on the other side of the state in Grand Rapids, trying to start a Social Media Revolution to help change the economic climate in Michigan. It is going to be great having you in Michigan we will have to meet up!
  • Lionel_Menchaca · 1 year ago
Scott: Congrats on the new opportunity to lead Ford's social media efforts. No doubt that you'll hit the ground running.

    Woo hoo!
  • Skyle · 1 year ago
Wow Scott, Congratulations. Big Blue! Boston will miss you, you are, afterall, part of the crowd who has torn down "all of the stereotypes of New England insularity" and we thank you for it! A fantastic opportunity and challenge awaits you and will rise to the occasion.
May the force be with you and if not, well, we're behind you!
  • lewis8 · 1 year ago
    Scott,

I will miss you in Boston, but I love Ford. Grew up in a Ford family, drive a Ford, and worked with Ford on an event at their CT Parts Distribution Center. Best wishes to you. Ford is lucky to get you.
  • Aaron Greenberger · 1 year ago
Congrat Scott! Wishing you all the best. Hopefully we can catch up one of these days. In Motor City often with Digitas Detroit so when you get settled you can take me out to a Pistons game this fall! (and i won't take it personally that you didn't give me a shout out as a "marketing or social media great" =)
  • Drew McLellan · 1 year ago
    Scott,

Sorry to be late for the party. Been a little pre-occupied with the floods! I just wanted to add my congrats to the crowds! Ford made a very wise choice in finding someone who understands both the how and the heart of social media.

    Enjoy the new adventure!

    Drew
  • agricola · 1 year ago
    Congratulations to you!
I've been picking through some feeds and just came to this one.
I'm sorry to hear you're leaving the area, but am happy for you and your family that you've got this amazing opportunity. Congratulations, your hard work is paying off.

So, now how do we schedule that drink we've been discussing for about 6 months?

    All the best!
  • Chris Wilson · 1 year ago

Scott; So I go on vacation and the big news comes out. Congratulations! I am so glad that Ford is getting such an able social media advisor. I look forward to seeing what comes out of your shop.
  • TimWalker · 1 year ago
Scott -- I bookmarked this but forgot to comment earlier. Congratulations on this big move. The automotive industry needs more and more new thinking, and it heartens me to see that they're reaching into the ranks of social media for talent like yours. All the best!
  • Kris Hoet · 1 year ago
Congrats Scott! Looking forward to see Ford being more active and actually make community sites that work (unlike fordperformance.com etc... cfr. http://iblogmustang.com/2008/05/12/ford-perform... )

    Good luck.
    - Kris
  • scottmonty · 1 year ago
Thanks for your encouragement, Kris. And thank you for that link. I'll definitely add it to my list of projects to see how we might be able to improve upon it.
  • Bob · 11 months ago
HA! you're a douche...let's go harass some little website and try to make them pay Ford $5000. Times are tough...so you're trying to gather the cost of one of your piece of shit Focuses from some guy who started a website with the word Ranger? Pathetic, glad I never have and never will own a Ford.
  • JUDY WILKINSON · 6 months ago
Hi, I'm sub-editing an article about you (good to see even in Australia, we are interested in what Scott Monty at Ford is up to) and the writer says you have 17,237 followers. Is that correct?
    Judy
  • Steve Jones · 4 months ago
    Hi Scott!

I was reffered to your blog by Karl Bloss because he heard that I had graduated with a degree in Advertising and had a strong interest in website design and web media relations. I have to say that although this was my first visit and I have yet to read all of your content, I was very impressed by it and I'm eager to read more of what you have to say about social networking. Keep up the good work!
  • krzysztof · 4 days ago
    Nice thread. Good luck.
