Design simplicity is surely important, and the two brands you mention generally do a good job of that.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;But not always, and as much of a fan I am of both of them, they both do plenty wrong. The difference is that they have both learned how to build world-class brands. That comes from product, sure, but it also comes from listening to consumers, engaging them, and clearly communicating value.
